Song of the Day - Surprise - Gnarls Barkley

It's not often that I post a "Song of the Day" that doesn't have a video to it, and for this one I really tried to find one that would work. Unfortunately this song by favorite group Gnarls Barkley never had a video and the only things I could find on the net were a couple of anime homemades that I wasn't crazy about and a few live performances of this song, 'Surprise.' Since I really wanted to share the album version without the anime, I simply chose a non-video video of it.

This song is off of Gnarls' last, most-fabulous album, 'The Odd Couple,' and it's perfect for the days leading up to the unofficial start of summer. As I've spoken about earlier, Gnarls Barkley is a duo made up of 'F**k You' singer, Cee Lo Green and his partner, Danger Mouse. Together, they put out two albums of innovative, enjoyable and deep stuff.

'The Odd Couple' is full of great tunes including this fun, 'surf's up' kinda song, very reminscent of what a Beach Boys or a Mammas and Pappas tune would sound like if it were made today. The "la, la, la's" permeating the tune scream 1960's California fun-in-the-sun and make this a perfect choice for impending days at the beach. So please, if you were ever going to try a song on this blog that ya didn't know, this might just be the one that catches your ear. Enjoy 'Surprise'!
