Song of the Day - I Know What Boys Like - The Waitresses

Source: Bridget McGuire

"I Know What Boys Like" was one of those silly, infectuous new wave songs that stuck in your head the first time you heard it. It's hard to believe that the song was recorded over 30 years ago, back in 1980. The song actually became a hit on its second release in 1982, hitting #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart that year.

The Waitresses were a six-person band from Akron, Ohio, and this was their only hit, with the exception of their Christmas song called "Christmas Wrapping," which I will definitely be sharing once we get a little closer to Christmas. The lead singer was Patty Donahue, whose naughty voice and persona gave the group its unique sound, and unfortunately she passed away fifteen years ago on December 9th, 1996, of lung cancer. She was only 40 years old.
