Flashback Friday Song of the Day - Jungle Love - The Time

Today's song is taken from Prince's 1984 semi-autobiographical, cult classic film, Purple Rain. In the movie, Morris Day, the lead singer of The Time, was our star's biggest nemesis, duking it with him out for both club bragging rights and the girl. Two of The Time's songs were featured in the film, The Bird and this track, and both songs hit the Top 40 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart.

The Time is one of the most successful acts of the early to mid-eighties recording artists to come out of the Prince spawned "Minneapolis Sound," which included artists such as Sheila E., Vanity 6, Appolonia 6, and Tevin Campbell, among others.  Though their time was short-lived, The Time was very cool in their heyday, and they even reunited for a performance of this song with Rihanna at the 50th Edition of the Grammy Awards in 2008, and have since played together under a different pseudonym, Original 7even, as recently as 2011.

In the interim, band members Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis took the Minneapolis Sound to another level as producers, creating huge hits with the likes of Janet Jackson, New Edition, The S.O.S. Band and many others.

So check out Jungle Love, by The Time, this Friday's Flashback Song of the Day:
