Song of the Day - Push It - Salt N Pepa

On Sunday night, The Long Island Music Hall of Fame inducted their 2012 honorees and one of the headliners of this year's crop was the classic hip-hop trio Salt N Pepa.  The three girls, who hail from Queens and Brooklyn, are Cheryl James (Salt), Sandra Denton (Pepa), and Diedra Roper (DJ Spindarella), were pioneers of their trade, scoring hits and paving the way for those that followed in a genre that had been mostly for men.

Over the years Salt N Pepa had several hits, including Shoop, Do You Really Want Me, Let's Talk About Sex, Whatta Man, with R&B quartet En Vogue, and this one, which was their first big smash.  Push It actually started off as a B-side to another single, Tramp, but the dubbed out tune with the catchy hook took upon a life of its own and helped put S&P on the map.

So here's to Salt N Pepa....Spindarella, too!  Thanks for all the good times and happy memories!
