Song of the Day - Take Me to Church - Hozier

I found the experience of falling in love or being in love was a death, a death of everything. You kind of watch yourself die in a wonderful way, and you experience for the briefest moment–if you see yourself for a moment through their eyes–everything you believed about yourself gone. In a death-and-rebirth sense.

That's indie Irish recording artist Hozier, speaking to the Irish Times of his Grammy nominated Take Me to Church, which I admit regrettably that I only just heard for the first time yesterday.  The haunting and beautiful track captured my admiration on that very first listen for its raw and honest depiction of the religious-like devotion experienced through falling in love, just as he says in the quote.

What's even more compelling is the video that accompanies the tune, one which adds a whole new dimension to the song and brings with it a more complete message, that which tackles the issue of oppression against LGBT people.  Just watch the video and you'll get it.  So raw...so awesome!
